His Carlisle United career is only 66 minutes old - but John-Kymani Gordon has already played his way into League Two's team of the week.

The Blues' goalscoring debutant has been named in the division's latest select XI after making an instant impact for Paul Simpson's side.

Gordon scored on his first United appearance to help clinch a 2-0 win over Newport County at Brunton Park.

The 19-year-old, who is on loan from Crystal Palace, scored a stylish second goal in the victory which helped maintain fourth-placed United's promotion challenge.

Gordon is the only Cumbrians player in the team of the week.

He is joined by four players from Swindon Town after their 5-0 thrashing of Grimsby Town.

There are also players from Stevenage, Salford City, Colchester United and Gillingham - the latter represented by former Carlisle defender Max Ehmer.

Swindon caretaker boss Gavin Gunning is manager of the week.

United boss Simpson said of Gordon's goalscoring debut: “It’ll make him feel on top of the world and hopefully it’s the first of many from him.”
