Gordon’s second-half goal was the 112th occasion a player has marked his first United outing in the league with a goal.

It is a tally which includes some of the Blues’ greatest names, such as Jimmy McConnell, Alan Ashman, Jimmy Whitehouse, Ivor Broadis, Chris Balderstone, Hugh McIlmoyle, Billy Rafferty and Malcolm Poskett, many more Brunton Park favourites, a few less remembered heroes...and one or two who scored on second debuts.

From 1928 to 2023, here is a rundown of the players who made a goalscoring impact inside their first 90 league minutes after joining the Brunton Park club.
