It was a first game in charge for the Everton legend and cult hero.

But Duncan Ferguson's start to life in the EFL dugout was spoiled...by a Cumbrian.

Ferguson's first game as Forest Green Rovers manager in League One saw his side take the lead at Shrewsbury Town.

But the home side turned it around with two injury-time goals - with Carlisle-born Ryan Bowman hitting the winner.

Ex-Blues player Bowman made it 2-1 in the eighth minute of added time in the game at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

It was a third goal of the season for the 31-year-old after he came off the bench in the 66th minute.

"It was a great finish in the end," said Shrews boss Steve Cotterill.

It left Ferguson's new club four points adrift at the bottom of the third tier, after his appointment as Ian Burchnall's successor earlier this week.

"It hurt really badly," said Ferguson of the finale.

"The team were excellent. I'm not sure where [all the added time] came from."
