A look at some of the latest stories from around Carlisle United’s division…
KAV JUNIOR’S DEBT TO DAD
Calum Kavanagh, son of ex-Carlisle United manager Graham, spoke of his gratitude to his dad after scoring on his Newport County debut.
Kavanagh junior hit the winner in the Exiles’ 2-1 victory over Swindon Town after joining on loan from Middlesbrough.
Speaking about his father, Kavanagh told the South Wales Argus: “He has taught me a lot about the game. Football is not always nice and we have the harsh conversations then he will tell me when I've done well.
“It's good because he has been through these experiences and knows what type of ups and downs you go through.”
RED DEVILS SIGN SIDEMEN BROTHER
Crawley Town have handed a one-year deal to Jedidiah Brown, brother of Sidemen star Tobi.
He has signed a development contract that will see him join the club’s B team, the Red Devils have announced.
He trained with the club from November alongside brothers Tobi and Manny. Co-chairman Preston Johnson said: “Jed is a young player who has acquitted himself well during previous training sessions with the team, and we’re happy to have him continue his development as a member of our B team."
CURLE: BLAME ME IF WE FAIL
Keith Curle says he will shoulder the blame if Hartlepool United lose their survival battle.
The Monkey Hangers followed a burst of late deadline-day recruitment with a 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.
They are a point above the drop zone. “If anything goes wrong, blame me. I’ve got four months to gain enough wins, but I don’t mind that,” ex-Carlisle boss Curle told the Hartlepool Mail.
NEW KEEPER FOR EVANS
Stevenage have added goalkeeper Adam Przybek to their promotion-chasing squad
The 22-year-old has joined Steve Evans' second-placed Boro on a permanent deal.
The Wales Under-21 international had had previous spells with Walsall, Wycombe Wanderers and Ipswich Town.
DOUBLE BLOW FOR COBBLERS
Northampton Town have suffered a double blow as they try to make up more ground on Carlisle United.
The fourth-placed Cobblers have lost Akin Odemayo to a hamstring injury whilst fellow wing-back Ali Koiki was sent off in their goalless draw against Walsall.
"I wasn't happy with the sending off. It was really poor discipline from him in that moment,” boss Jon Brady told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.
SALFORD MAKE PYRO POINT
Promotion-chasing Salford City have warned fans against the use of smoke bombs and pyrotechnic devices.
They say a “number” of such items were set off during their 1-0 win over Rochdale, and say anyone found using one faces a stadium ban and prosecution.
“An away supporter was taken ill during the game, possibly connected to the use of such devices in the away end,” a statement added. “Our thanks go to the medical teams from both clubs for their swift response, but their intervention should not have been necessary.”
LEADERS SET NEW RECORD
League Two leaders Leyton Orient set a remarkable club record against AFC Wimbledon.
Their 1-0 win made it nine consecutive home clean sheets for the Os.
They have not conceded at Brisbane Road since October 1. “The remarkable defensive performances of late have eclipsed a 99-year-old record, with Orient's 1923/24 side keeping eight consecutive clean sheets,” the club notes.
DONS REUNION EXCITES STRIKER
AFC Wimbledon striker Josh Davison is excited by his reunion with former Charlton Athletic team-mate Diallang Jaiyesimi.
The latter joined the Dons – Carlisle’s hosts on Saturday – on loan from the Addicks on deadline day.
After Jaiyesimi’s debut as a sub against Orient, striker Davison said: “He was lively, even having come on towards the end of the game. He gets on the ball and makes things happen.”
EX-BLUES MAN COY ON NEW DEAL
Doncaster Rovers’ new captain Tom Anderson has not ruled out extending his stay with the club.
The defender’s deal is up in the summer.
The former Carlisle loan man, speaking in the Doncaster Free Press, said: “I have got a bond with the club now and I have loved being here. We will just have to see what happens.”
