A look at some of the latest news from around Carlisle United’s division…

TITLE CHASERS’ EMERGENCY KEEPER

Second-placed Stevenage have gone into the emergency loan market to ease a goalkeeping crisis.

Steve Evans’ club have signed Accrington Stanley’s Toby Savin, following an arm injury to Jokull Andresson in midweek.

Savin, whose loan is a seven-day emergency deal, is likely to make his debut at Stockport County on Saturday.

CURLE’S HOPES FOR VETERAN

Keith Curle hopes veteran new Hartlepool United signing Leon Clarke has still got the goal touch.

The 38-year-old striker has joined the second-bottom Monkey Hangers’ survival fight as a free agent and could face AFC Wimbledon this weekend.

“He’s not coming here for a pay cheque,” said Curle of the ex-Sheffield United, Wolves and Coventry City man in the Northern Echo. “He’s on a performance-related contract, which means he scores goals, we win games, and that’s how he earns his wages.”

NEW-DEAL JACK’S AIM

Jack Muldoon, fresh from signing a new deal at Harrogate Town, wants to play his part in keeping the Sulphurites away from relegation trouble.

Muldoon signed a two-year extension to his deal at the 20th-placed club this week.

And the experienced forward told the Harrogate Advertiser: “We know we are in a real scrap for survival and it’s about trying to step up our game and find that consistency.”

STRUGGLERS’ INJURY BLOW

Bottom side Rochdale have suffered a blow with the news Cheltenham Town loan midfielder Dan Adshead is out for several weeks.

A knee injury has cost Adshead to play his part in Dale’s immediate efforts to get out of trouble – and he needs surgery.

“Ultimately, he’s been to see a specialist and he needs a tidy up, so we won’t be seeing him in the near future,” boss Jim Bentley told the club website.

CRAWLEY MIDDLE MAN DEPARTS

Young midfielder Szymon Kowalczyk has left Carlisle’s next away-day opponents Crawley Town.

The 19-year-old, who joined the club three years ago, did not push his way into first-team contention.

After a loan spell at East Grinstead Town, he has now left the third-bottom Red Devils by mutual consent.

NEW BOSS HOPING FOR KICKSTART

Jody Morris is hoping for an end to his losing start as Swindon Town boss.

The man who replaced Scott Lindsey at the County Ground has suffered defeats in his first three games.

After dropping out of the play-off places and down to 11th, they face Salford City on Saturday. “We can't hide away from the fact results have not gone well. But if we're talking about building resilience, a lot of those characteristics come from these bad moments,” Morris said in a press conference.

“We've got to use these spells to propel us onto performing better and turning results around.”

BARROW BOSS CLAIMS LATEST APOLOGY

Barrow manager Pete Wild claims he has received another apology from officials.

The Bluebirds boss, who said refereeing authorities had apologised over two of the goals they shipped at Carlisle last month, blasted the officials after their 1-0 defeat to Newport County.

Referring to Rory Feely’s red card, he said: “The referee has apologised and said it was not a red. The referee has been marked down for it and still it is not overturned so we are very frustrated about it."

U’S VETERAN FACES OP

Cole Skuse is out of Colchester United’s trip to Carlisle – and further games – as he needs a knee operation.

The experienced midfielder suffered the injury in the U’s win at Grimsby Town last weekend.

“He's obviously been central to a lot of what we've done recently, but he's going to be out for a little while,” boss Matt Bloomfield told The Gazette.

"That's a shame for him and it's a shame for us.”
