A look at some of the top stories from around Carlisle United’s division…

ANOTHER BLOW FOR PROMOTION CHASERS

Carlisle’s promotion rivals Northampton Town have suffered yet another injury blow.

After midfielder Ben Fox confirmed an ankle injury has ruled him out for the season, boss Jon Brady also said defender Tyler Magloire would also miss the rest of the campaign.

“It’s a real tough blow for Tyler, and Shaun McWilliams is going to be out for a period of time as well,” Brady told the fourth-placed Cobblers’ website.

STRUGGLERS LAND EX-PALACE MAN

Relegation-threatened Crawley Town have brought in former Premier League midfielder Jordon Mutch.

The free agent has joined the second-bottom Red Devils until the end of the season.

Ex-Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, Birmingham City and QPR man Mutch ,who was previously with Australian side Macarthur FC, could make his debut at Northampton tomorrow. “He’s a quality player with a vast amount of experience,” said Crawley director of football Chris Galley.

EX-HAMMER SIGNS UP

Gillingham have completed the signing of former West Ham United, Coventry City and Charlton Athletic left-back Lewis Page.

He has agreed a short-term deal having recently left fellow League Two club Mansfield Town.

He is the latest new recruit after a wave of signings at Priestfield following their takeover by American businessman Brad Galinson. He is available to face Harrogate Town tomorrow.

BARROW BOY DEPARTS

Barrow have confirmed the departure of midfielder Jordan Stevens.

The ex-Leeds United man has left by mutual consent after a year and a half in south Cumbria.

Stevens made 44 appearances for the club, but has seen opportunities limited this season. "We wish Jordan all the best for the future and thank him for all his efforts in a Barrow shirt," the Bluebirds said.

RED-HOT COOK EYES HOME FORM

Bradford City’s in-form striker Andy Cook wants the Bantams to sort out their home form to fire up their promotion bid.

Ex-Carlisle man Cook is in prolific form for Mark Hughes’ side, who have won their last three away games but only one in four at home.

They host the Blues later this month, and entertain Colchester United this weekend. “We are winning games away, and looking comfortable when we do so, so we have to take that into our home games,” Cook told the club website.

NEW U’S BOSS ON THE UP

Ben Garner believes he is taking charge at Colchester United at a good time for the club.

He has replaced Wycombe-bound Matt Bloomfield as the U’s third head coach of the season.

Colchester enjoyed good recent form under Bloomfield to move clear of the relegation pack. Ex-Swindon Town and Charlton Athletic chief Garner said: "I think there's real potential now and I think I'm taking the job at a really good time and the right time, in order for us all to move the club in the direction that we want to go.”

MARINERS’ TWITTER APOLOGY

Grimsby Town issued an apology yesterday after using a Twitter video of Katie Price’s son Harvey as part of their FA Cup celebrations.

After their fifth-round victory at Southampton, the Mariners uploaded a clip of Harvey, who is disabled.

But a statement yesterday admitted it was “inappropriate”, adding: "The post was removed this morning as soon as we were made aware. We would like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence it has caused."

EX-BLUES MAN EYES EXILES STAY

Offrande Zanzala has indicated his willingness to stay at Newport County for longer.

The well-travelled frontman joined the Exiles from Barrow last summer and has scored three goals in 17 appearances.

"I'm happy at the club, I'm enjoying it, I'm playing football,” Zanzala told the BBC. "I never thought with how many times I've moved around that I'd end up in south Wales but obviously it's worked out.”

STEVENAGE BACK ON TRACK

Stevenage frontman Luke Norris reckons their promotion push is back on course.

He got the winner in a 3-2 midweek victory at AFC Wimbledon to end a five-game run without victory.

It also sent Steve Evans’ side back above Carlisle and into second place. “We always believed. We've done it all season but we’ve dropped off for four or five games,” Norris told The Comet.

"It’s amazing what a bit of confidence does and what goals do to people. We believe and we know what we can do."

WALSALL QUICK ON DRAW

Draw specialists Walsall are desperate to end their wait for a win, admits boss Michael Flynn.

The Saddlers have drawn their last six league games, and are also nine without a win in all competitions.

They let a 3-1 lead slip in added time at Hartlepool last time out and, ahead of their clash with Barrow, Flynn told the Express & Star: “After six draws in a row we need a win and for [the supporters] more than anything, so there will be no time for a hangover.”

FLYING SUTTON’S ‘MOMENTUM’

In-form Sutton United have all the momentum at the moment, reckons boss Matt Gray.

The south London club have won their last three games and have lost just one in 11 amid a rise to ninth, three points outside the play-off places.

They host Crewe Alexandra tomorrow. “The run we’ve been on has been superb – right up with anyone in the division, and momentum is really with us,” said Gray.
