It was a day when Carlisle United fans once again showed their best colours.

As well as cheering Paul Simpson's promotion-chasers to their latest victory, there was even more colour and character in Brunton Park during the Grimsby Town game.

An appeal by supporters led to a host of flags and banners being put on display in the Waterworks End.

Fans responded to the call and the Waterworks End, which normally stands empty of fans, featured a bright and busy array of messages showing their support.

The Flags for United movement, which has created some huge banners backing the Blues, led the campaign on Saturday.

Some of their recently-produced flags, including a large Owen Moxon tribute banner and a Union Jack in 1994/5 'deckchair' colours, were on show, as was a big Paul Simpson banner produced last season.

A range of other flags - including one paying tribute to legendary late BBC Radio Cumbria commentator Derek Lacey - were also attached to the barriers behind the goal, with some Grimsby Town fans joining in with their own banners.

Further flags were seen in other areas of the ground as fans displayed their support for United's push for glory.

"Waterworks looked unreal, thank-you all, up the Blues," wrote @FlagsforUnited on Twitter, while United's chief executive Nigel Clibbens called the display "brilliant".
