The Wales international says Swindon have a knack of performing better against the top sides in their division.
The 11th-placed Wiltshire outfit host Paul Simpson’s second-placed Blues this weekend.
And the experienced Williams said: "I think it will be a real challenge.
"They [Carlisle] have shown they deserve to be where they are – they’re second in the table and are doing really well.
"We're coming off the back of three unbeaten, two wins and a good point against Leyton Orient, who I think are the best side we've played.
"Carlisle will be similar, a good side. We have to respect them but we believe in ourselves.

"Since I've been here we've always done quite well against the top teams – the [games] people don't expect us to win.
"We have to maintain that and keep delivering to the end of the season.”
Williams, who was in Wales’ World Cup squad in Qatar, remains a key man for the Robins, who are hoping to push their way into the top seven.
They are seven points outside the play-off places ahead of this weekend’s game with United.
"There are opportunities for us to gain some ground on teams and make up some points to the play-offs,” insisted the former Crystal Palace and Sunderland man, speaking to his club’s media outlets.
