They are the band who have soundtracked the Blues’ promotion push with a series of songs in classic Carlisle lingo.
And now The Watterwucks have done it again - with a new number backing United’s big ticket offer.
They have recorded ‘Ten Pun To Get In The Grun’ to accompany Carlisle’s initiative which sees tickets for next month’s game against Tranmere Rovers reduced to £10 – with a 10,000 crowd the target.
It features lyrics such as ‘Ten pun to get in the grun / it’s Saturday afternoon there’s nee where else to gan.
‘Ten pun to get in the grun / What else you gonna gan and spend yer lewer on?'
The tune follows previous releases by The Watterwucks in tribute to United’s promotion push and to Carlisle-born midfield star Owen Moxon.
The latest number has also been officially adopted by the Blues as part of their big push for the Good Friday game against Tranmere – an initiative called #10for10.
Its lyrics also pay tribute to captain Morgan Feeney’s ginger hair – while of another of the team’s defensive stars, they sing: ‘Jon Mellish is hellish hard / but he doesn’t dee nee tricks.
‘But he’ll tek the ball or brek your legs / He gives the attackers nix’.
There is also perhaps the most unique tribute to boss Paul Simpson that has yet been committed to song.
‘It was frozen when Simmo came back / But now we can’t get nee hotter.
“He’s proper cush, he’s one of us / A proper Carlisle potter…’”
United said the tune was “absolutely fantastic” and are using it to promote their #10for10 push.
The Watterwucks’ previous numbers include ‘Gannen Up Agen’, a reworking of an old cult online classic by ‘The Grun’, and with listeners to the track urged to support Carlisle Foodbank.
They also recorded ‘Moxon With A Fox On’ – expressing a strong Carlisle love for Denton Holme star Moxon.
