A look at some of the latest news and rumours from around Carlisle United’s division.

SAVOURY DISH ON MENU?

Queen’s Park former Celtic midfielder Grant Savoury has been linked with a host of clubs – Carlisle United among them.

A report from Football Insider say the Blues along with others in Leagues Two and One are monitoring the 22-year-old.

Forest Green Rovers and Bradford City are also said to be eyeing Savoury, who has scored 12 goals this season in Scottish League One.

INJURY BLOW FOR STRUGGLERS

Crawley Town’s survival hopes have been hit by an injury to frontman Kwesi Appiah.

He has been ruled out for four to six weeks with a leg problem.

League Two’s second-bottom club said: “Everybody at the club would like to wish Kwesi all the best in his recovery, and we hope to see him back out on the pitch as soon as possible.”

INTERNATIONAL STAR CALLS IT A DAY

Jonny Williams’ outing for Swindon Town against Carlisle last weekend was his last as an international player.

He has since announced his retirement from Wales duties at 29, after winning 33 caps.

"From the age of 15 it has been an absolute honour and privilege to wear the red dragon on my shirt,” said the midfielder.

CLOUGH BLASTS VETERAN

Nigel Clough was critical of experienced Stephen Quinn after he saw red in Mansfield Town’s 1-0 defeat at Northampton Town.

Quinn was sent off for enacting retribution with a dangerous challenge on Kieron Bowie after the Stags felt the officials had missed an earlier foul.

“He should know better and he has let us down,” Clough told the Chad. “Unfortunately that's the way he is at times and he realises that now. He will now miss the next three games which is a big blow.”

GILLS LINKED WITH PERMANENT MOVE

Gillingham have been linked with a permanent deal for loan man Conor Masterson.

The QPR defender is currently impressing amid a six-month stay from the Championship.

“He is out of contract at QPR in the summer and is a player we are strongly interested in, definitely,” Gills director of football Kenny Jackett told KentOnline.

DONNY STAR STAYS PUT

Doncaster Rovers’ Kyle Hurst signed a new deal despite talk of interest from other clubs.

The 21-year-old winger put pen to paper on new two-and-a-half year terms earlier this month.

And he insisted he was not aware of any suitors despite comments from boss Danny Schofield. "I want to keep playing, keep producing. It’s my breakthrough season and I’m very grateful to Doncaster. I thought [signing the new deal] was the right thing for me and my family,” he said in the Doncaster Free Press.

BARROW STAR’S NEW DEAL DELIGHT

Barrow midfielder Robbie Gotts is delighted to have signed an extended deal.

He is now at Holker Street until 2025.

"I feel like the club has helped me develop as a player and I’m looking forward to keep on progressing here at Barrow.

"I’m really excited, as I can see the progress the club is making, even in the short time I’ve been here, and I want to be a part of that,” the ex-Leeds United man told the club website.

EVANS CRANKS UP PRESSURE

Stevenage boss Steve Evans insists some managers will soon start to feel the heat in the League Two promotion race.

Boro went second after beating Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday night – and face Carlisle on Saturday.

"After that it’s 10 games to go and then we'll see who can deal with the pressure, then we'll see some of the managers that have never been the course,” Evans told The Comet.

"Squeaky bum time is arriving after this weekend."

CONTROVERSIAL STAND UNDER SCRUTINY

A judicial review has been announced into the circumstances behind a half-built stand at Northampton Town.

A judge will decide whether a council’s sale of land was lawful.

Developer Cilldara was given permission by the High Court to apply for a judicial review, after its bid for land next to Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium was rejected by West Northamptonshire Council, report the BBC.

Work on the club's East Stand stalled in 2014 after a £10.25m loan from the now-defunct Northampton Borough Council went missing, they add.

The judicial review is due to be heard on March 28-29.
