Carlisle United fans couldn't hide their frustration after the poor display in the 1-0 defeat at Gillingham.

Here is a selection of the comments they made to the News & Star on Twitter after the game.

Been very poor with the ball during this little run and got punished today. Reset now but this makes Orient a must win game. None of that front three could complain if they are dropped. (@parkinsonross)

I thought the performance at Bradford was a little overhyped and while today was clearly worse, there were similarities in terms of too many wasted long balls and a lack of quality final passes. Is Simmo overdoing the squad rotation a touch? Dennis should be first choice striker. (@mlgraham73)

Dreadful. Good luck picking a man of the match from that. Bus driver? Do we know our best XI? And you never want to go away to the top team knowing that it's not quite "must win", but another defeat and there'll be 10K turning up for Tranmere more in hope than expectation. (@1StevieKilner)

Terrible performance, could hardly string two passes together against a very poor team. Got what we deserved…nothing. Time wasting at the end when we should’ve been going for three points, very disappointing (@Wisey6575)

Way too much obsession with shape and defending during the last five games. Our place in this division previously won through high pressing, high energy, neat passing amd movement. Disappeared this run of games. Momentum been sucked out of where we were. (@andythehood)

Dreadful. No composure on the ball. Didn’t stick up front. Hoof and chase. Bottom line. We need to score goals and we’re not. (@andredfern)

Really poor performance all round, Dennis, Gibson and McCalmont should all be starting in my opinion, love Garner but it feels like we’re a lot more defensive with him in over Dennis. (@joeleigh95)

Yeah, not at the races today but ups and downs will come for us and all the teams at the top. That’s football and that’s League Two. Plenty of unreal overreaction as per when we get beat. Can’t win them all. Gills decent at the moment. We’ll be ok, big games to come against teams around us (@AdWhitfield94)

Really can’t understand the side and shape that Simmo picked and that is not hindsight, said it before the kick off! (@PaulFrankangea)

Was at game. We seem to just hoof the ball. Gibson was good. Need to play the ball. We've got a top scorer, let's play him. Tbh, ref was awful. Easily could've had a penalty with all the holding in pen area at corners. (@timvg123)

Can't win them all...I'd prefer to look at how far we've come in 12 months and heap lots and lots of praise onto the players/coaching team. Criticising them for a couple of below par games isn't on. I still believe and have full faith in them all. COYB's (@ChrisWi98306072)

Optimistic me says, start Gibson, stop chopping and changing the front two, get Hunts back and all will be well. Pessimistic me: old enough to remember 1990. (@j_michaelb)

Turgid game! Gillingham got the lucky break as we didn't clear our lines. We struggled to impose ourselves on them. A lot of huff and puff with little creativity. Onwards to the next game! (@CowellLes1975)

We’ve had better days but haven’t become a bad team overnight. Today, everything was miles off though. Dust ourselves off, take an ear bashing from the boss, who wasn’t without blame himself, and go again next week. Still a massive opportunity in our best season for years. (@DRNoble25)

Need to keep the positivity for the team with the games coming up as turning on them after one game isn’t fair after the season they have had (@cufc_10)

The faffing about swapping the front two needs to stop. We’ve not scored in six of the last ten games so it’s clearly not working. Dennis needs to be playing week in week out to be sharp, he barely missed a game and was League Two top scorer. Eight games left, Simmo has to play his best 11 every week (@PeteMcCormick6)

Typically Carlisle way of playing well against those higher in the table v those lower in the table. I won't get my knickers in a twist over losing a game as it's obviously our turn to have a sticky run of results. We aren't a bad side, and Gills were pretty decent up here (@dougrmurphy)

Where to start? Poor choice of formation, bizarre decision to drop McCalmont, barely a player on form (Gibson and Feeney the only two who come out with any credit IMO). Need to put it behind us, and come out fighting next week. (@buzzisbackCUFC)

I'm not convinced a back three is needed now. I think Feeney and Hunts can do the job. Think we need to stop playing hoofball as well. Not giving our midfielders enough of a chance (@Cazzum01)

Not the right time to nosedive. Big regrouping needed now - perhaps a combo of sticks and carrots. Up to Simmo to use that magic wand. (@NotInSeddon)

Far too annoyed with an awful performance. Three points that we never ever looked like winning. Far too many were off it. Alfie should have started. Awful. (@BruceVander)

Gutted, got to get three points at Orient now and home against Tranmere, onwards and upwards (@cufccraig1983)

It’s simple! When we pass the ball on the floor we are ten times better (@JasonGarrick4)

Let’s just beat Orient and all is forgiven (@keithelliott94)

Just makes you think what Dennis has done wrong. I get the tactics of playing Garner and we need pace up top with either Patrick or Gordon but when we need goals and leaving a 18-goal striker on the bench makes you think (@ND0YL3)

Lost our heads possibly because we’re playing too much head tennis. Maybe time to question whether we’re not a better team with Garner and Patrick on the bench and concentrating on our passing accuracy. (@JHallHDI)

Really poor from the start. McCalmont our best player for the last three games dropped for a change in shape that never worked. Robinson substitution strange. Off day for the team and the manager. Must improve and get back on it quickly. (@totheshore)

Well no positives to take out of that...plenty running, no quality! Dennis can't be too happy since relying on muscle and ref deception has sidelined him for too long now. Need to look at pre Garner games and get back to some intelligent flowing easy on the eye football. (@LindaNi121202)

Simmo admits that he got it wrong today with the starting 11. I feel that McCalmont and Gibson should be starting games with Dennis and Edmondson. I hope that Huntington is back next week as he is a big influence and presence in the team. Three points at Orient would be nice. (@peterjo91525330)
