LANERCOST Cricket Club has confirmed that its first-round cup tie has been canceled.
Lanercost CC were scheduled to take on Daisy Hill Cricket Club in the opening round of the Voneus Village Cup.
However, after Daisy Hill forfeited the match, Lanercost move one step closer to the Voneus Village Cup final and will host Grimsargh at home in May.
This comes after the club had announced that on the same day as their first cup game, former international cricketer Lydia Greenway would be hosting a junior masterclass session from 10am to 12pm on Sunday, April 23.
Ahead of the event, Lydia Greenway said: "It's a fantastic tournament that has played a crucial role in flying the flag for grassroots cricket for over 50 years, particularly in the game's rural communities.
"I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone at Lanercost having heard some great things about the club.
"I know they have a thriving junior section and I can’t wait to link up with these young players and hopefully play a part in inspiring them as they begin their cricketing journeys.”
Mike Mitchelson also said: "There has been a buzz around the local community since Voneus got in touch about shining a spotlight on our first-round fixture.
"We hope to have a good crowd and any funds raised on the day will make a huge difference to a rural cricket club like us.”
