Cumbrian keeper Dean Henderson deserves another chance in Manchester United’s first team.
That’s according to former Red Devils star Dimitar Berbatov, who believes Henderson should be given the opportunity to prove he can be the Old Trafford No1.
Whitehaven star Henderson has long been linked with a move away from Man Utd with David de Gea remaining first choice.
The former Carlisle United academy keeper, who is currently injured, has spent the season on loan with Nottingham Forest.
Henderson has been linked with clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa – with Carlisle on alert to benefit from a big-money move through a sell-on clause.
The Blues would also benefit if Henderson got regular first-team action at Man Utd and Berbatov believes the 26-year-old warrants a fresh look by Erik ten Hag.
“I believe that Dean Henderson deserves a chance at Manchester United, as I don’t believe he’s been given a chance previously,” Berbatov told Betfred.
“He needs to be given a real chance to show what he can do.
“If Erik ten Hag gives him a chance to prove himself next season, then I believe that will be beneficial for both Dean and David de Gea, as David needs to be properly challenged.”
Henderson will not play again this season after undergoing surgery recently.
It followed the thigh injury that has kept him out of action since January.
The Cumbrian, though, has said he will be back for pre-season training.
He has made 20 appearances for Forest this season and, early in the campaign, regained his place in the England squad.
Henderson has 29 first-team outings to his name for Man Utd, whom he joined back in 2011 from Carlisle's academy.
