TEENAGE Carlisle boxer John Joe Carrigan has been crowned the GB Tri Nations junior champion.
The 15-year-old from Border City Amateur Boxing Club took part in the 70kg junior tri-nations event on Sunday.
Carrigan, representing England, met Scotland's Marcus McEwan in the light middleweight division final and claimed a unanimous victory to be crowned GB champion.
This latest title for the young boxer tops off another impressive season which has seen Carrigan pick up a number of titles, including the England National Junior title, the NABGC national title, and three Boxcup gold medals.
Carrigan's coach Ian Archibald called the victory an 'incredible achievement' for the talented boxer and previewed an exciting summer of action for the teenager.
He said: "The Tri-Nations title is the icing on the cake.
"The coaching team down at Border City are over the moon with his progress.
"He has put in the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices as well as the coaches and we’re getting our just rewards.
"John Joe will now go on to represent England in the up-and-coming European championships held in Romania in July, with several Euro-England preparation camps coming up for him."
