Carlisle United are seeking a new goalkeeping coach on the eve of pre-season training.

It comes after Paul Gerrard left the club.

The Blues announced today that the coach would not be returning to the club after one full season on Paul Simpson’s coaching staff.

It leaves the Cumbrians with a vacancy in a key coaching position as the squad prepares to return for training this week.

Former Everton and Oldham Athletic keeper Gerrard had initially linked up with Simpson and the Blues in February 2022.

He went on to sign a year-long deal last summer, and was a trusted part of the coaching team who helped United achieve promotion from League Two.

But the 50-year-old ex-Doncaster Rovers coach has now departed with United saying in a statement: “We can confirm that keeper coach Paul Gerrard will move on from the Blues and will not return for pre-season training this week, by mutual agreement.

“We thank Paul for his work with the club and wish him all the best for the future.

“The club will appoint a replacement in due course.”
