Carlisle United have today made former loan man Jack Robinson their first summer signing.
The defender has agreed a two-year deal, with an option of a third, at Brunton Park.
Robinson has left Middlesbrough and linked up permanently with the Blues ahead of their return to League One.
The left-sided player, 22, had been on loan from Boro in the second half of last season.
Robinson made eight appearances in that spell, including only one start, but boss Paul Simpson was impressed with how the defender acquitted himself in his time at the club.
The deal sees Robinson move on from Boro where he had been since the age of 13, stepping up to the professional ranks three years ago.
He made two first-team outings for Boro and spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Yeovil Town.
His spell at United was largely limited to substitute appearances, Simpson crediting the form of left wing-back Jack Armer for keeping Robinson out of the side.
He finally made his full Blues debut in the final game of the 2022/23 league campaign at Sutton United.
Robinson will link back up with his United team-mates for the start of pre-season training on Wednesday.
Blues boss Simpson, speaking on the club website, said of the deal: “Jack impressed me when he spent his time here on loan with us last season.
“He was really unfortunate that he didn’t get to play more games than he did, but that was because of the form Jack Armer was in.
“I want competition for places and I think Jack certainly gives us that. He’s the right sort of character, he’s got a good personality and he certainly has ability.
“I’m hoping he’s going to use us as a base to go and develop for the next stage of his career.
"He’s got some ability with a lovely left foot and he’s a very good athlete.
“He ticks the box. He’s had a really good grounding from Middlesbrough with the upbringing he’s had and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
