Released Carlisle United defender Joel Senior has got fixed up with a new club.

The 24-year-old has signed for Morecambe in League Two.

Senior has agreed a one-year deal for the Shrimps as they start life back in the fourth tier after last season’s relegation.

The former Altrincham and Burnley man starred at Wembley for the Blues in last month’s play-off final victory over Stockport County.

But boss Paul Simpson decided against offering him a new deal – with Senior now set for a fresh start under Derek Adams at the Mazuma Stadium.

Adams, speaking about the deal on Morecambe’s website, said: “Joel obviously had a very good season last year in being part of a promotion with Carlisle.

“He has shown throughout his career that he isn’t scared to work hard and roll his sleeves up and it’s a credit to him that his journey has taken him to this stage.”

“Joel is still only 24 years old and still developing so there will be progress to be made in the next year and this is a good place for him to do it.”

Senior said he wants to enjoy more promotion success after last season’s experience with Carlisle.

“I look forward to meeting the team and getting to work for the season ahead,” he said. “Having tasted promotion it makes me want it again.”

Senior made 21 appearances and scored one goal for the Blues after joining in January 2022, with a cruciate knee ligament injury keeping him out from February that year until January 2023.

His attacking run from right wing-back played a crucial part in Omari Patrick’s equaliser in the play-off final, as United fought back against Stockport before going on to win on penalties.
