THREE members of Aspatria Bowling Club have celebrated representing England.

Kevin Harrison and brothers Mark and Stuart Irwin represented their country at the British Isles Championships.

This international competition was held in Ayr, Scotland between Wednesday, June 28, and Thursday, June 29 with the trio competing in the Men's Triples.

In this Triples category, the trio defeated Jersey 19-18 on an extra end in the semi-finals before being defeated marginally by Ireland 17-14 in the final, claiming a runners-up prize.

Kevin and Stuart were also selected to represent the England Eagles at the British Isles International Series which also took place in Ayr on Sunday, July 2.

In this category, the pair enjoyed an unbeaten tournament, defeating Ireland 18-14, Scotland 18-12, and Wales 19-17, however, England were collectively defeated.

Despite the disappointment for the men's team, the England Eagles Women were able to clinch the gold medal in an all-England final between the Eagles and England Lions.

Women’s manager, Sandy Hazell, reflected on the all-England Women’s final on the Bowls England website.

She said: "It’s amazing.

"It’s what we hoped might happen, it’s what we wanted to happen and here we are playing for Gold and Silver.

"It’s exactly how we planned it to be and why we picked the teams as we did to balance them, giving us confidence that they would win their groups to get us to an all-England Women’s Final."

Kevin was part of this trio of representatives from Aspatrais Bowling Club and earned his first England senior cap with his appearance at the championships having previously featured for the Under-25s.

Speaking after the event had concluded he summed up his emotions after being able to represent his home nation.

"The weather was not the best, to be honest, but getting to represent your country in any sport you play is a massive achievement.

"I was chuffed to bits."
