Former Carlisle United man Harry McKirdy has suggested that the medical issue that has sidelined him for several months is heart-related.
The striker's current club Hibernian announced earlier this week that McKirdy was set for a long spell on the sidelines.
It followed routine pre-season checks which had uncovered an "issue".
Hibs did not specify the nature of the problem but in a post on Instagram, McKirdy wrote: "Not the way u wanna start a season but time to get the old ticker fixed, C u all @ Christmas ⭐️⭐️"
McKirdy's Scottish Premiership club said the 26-year-old would be out for between four to six months, as he required surgery.
Manager Lee Johnson told the Hibs website: “This has come as a real shock for us all and has been a tough few days for Harry as we came to the bottom of what the scans meant.
“We’re all with him, have to rally around him and give him as much support as possible.
“We have a first-class medical department that will look after him and make sure he comes back fit and healthy.”
McKirdy had been linked with loan moves to Colchester United and Leyton Orient but any possible departure from Edinburgh will now be on the backburner.
