Carlisle United will take trialist Dan Langley to their Scottish training camp next week – but Stephen Walker has moved on.

The Blues’ assistant manager Gavin Skelton gave an update on the players who have been training with the Cumbrians in early pre-season.

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Langley made his third appearance in United’s 3-0 friendly victory at Workington Reds.

But ex-Middlesbrough forward Walker, having featured in the previous two games against Annan Athletic and Gretna 2008, was absent.

Skelton, speaking after the game at Borough Park on Saturday, said the Blues were now moving in different directions with respect to the two players.

On keeper Langley, who played 60 minutes at Workington, Paul Simpson’s No2 said: “That’s an ongoing situation.

“It’s difficult because he hasn’t really been tested in the friendly games we’ve had so far.

“He’s looked tidy in everything he’s done and his application has been good. He’s trained really well, he’s done things properly, but we do want to have a really good look at him.

“He’ll carry on training with us – he’ll come with us to Scotland and we’re still both having a look at each other – and the other trialist won’t.”

On Walker, who scored the winner in United’s 2-1 victory at Annan, Skelton said: “He’s moved on. He picked up a slight injury but he’s looking at different options, and that’s the same for us. He’s not with us now.”

Manager Simpson, at the start of pre-season, had said a third trialist was with the Blues but Langley appears to be the only one in the building at the moment.

United are set to spend next week at the University of St Andrews for a training camp, with a behind-closed-doors game also part of the trip.
