A look at some of the latest news and gossip from around Carlisle United’s division…

SEAGULLS MIDFIELDER LINKED

Several clubs – including Carlisle – have been mentioned in connection with Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Marc Leonard.

The 21-year-old is set to make another loan move from his Premier League parent club.

Football Insider say the Blues along with opening-day opponents Fleetwood Town and fellow League One club Charlton Athletic are interested.

Carlisle’s bigger priority appears to be in attack, though reports of a Blackpool bid for Owen Moxon today could influence their midfield thinking.

SUNDERLAND MAN JOINS SHREWS

Shrewsbury Town have signed Sunderland defender Joe Anderson on loan.

The 22-year-old has made a season-long switch from the Stadium of Light.

Anderson will play alongside ex-Blues man Morgan Feeney – a former Everton youth team-mate. “This will be a big season for Joe and will hopefully be his breakthrough year in men’s football,” boss Matt Taylor told the Shrews website.

The Croud Meadow club have also signed ex-Wolves midfielder Taylor Perry after a trial.

POSH DEFEND RADIO DECISION

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has backed his club’s controversial decision to offer in-house commentary online, instead of live BBC coverage.

Posh’s games will no longer be covered in full on BBC Cambridgeshire, instead providing the service themselves on a paid-for basis – a decision which has sparked a petition.

MacAnthony, speaking on TalkSport, said: "We are building a product that our fans will love and which will become more commonplace in the EFL.”

He added: “The BBC don’t love us anyway. They did a three-minute skit on Friday mocking our decision.”

The Posh chief also said the club were working on a “solution” for fans who would struggle to access the new Posh Plus service.

POMPEY LINE UP KEEPER

Portsmouth are poised to bring in a new goalkeeper to compete with Will Norris.

Boss John Mousinho told The News that a deal was imminent.

“We are in talks with a goalkeeper and quite far advanced, so hopefully that player can get minutes on Tuesday and also Saturday,” he said.

“He’s not particularly old, but has experience of playing in the Football League.”

MAN UTD MAN’S ROYALS EXCITEMENT

Charlie Savage and his father Robbie have spoken of their excitement at Charlie's move to Reading on a permanent deal.

Savage signed a four-year deal with the Royals, joining fellow new boy Lewis Wing at the Madejski Stadium.

It ended his boyhood spell at Old Trafford. Savage junior said he “can’t wait” to get started while former Premier League star Robbie tweeted: “An amazing opportunity for Charlie. Look after him Royals fans please.”

CHAIRBOYS LAND PREM STRIKER

Wycombe Wanderers took their summer recruitment tally to eight with a deal for Nottingham Forest striker Dale Taylor.

The 20-year-old Northern Ireland frontman has joined Matt Bloomfield’s Chairboys on a season-long loan.

“I know there were a lot of clubs at this level trying to bring him in, so it’s a fantastic signing for us and I’m delighted that we’ve got it done,” said the Wycombe boss.

LATICS LAND CELTIC MIDFIELDER

Wigan Athletic boss Shaun Maloney is delighted to have brought in 22-year-old Celtic midfielder Liam Shaw.

The ex-Sheffield Wednesday utility man has joined the Latics on loan for the season, having played in League One for Morecambe last term.

“I have to thank Celtic who pushed hard with us to get this deal done quickly,” Maloney told Wigan’s website. “He’s a great character and brings a different profile physically so I’m glad Liam has joined us for the season, and I hope he’s ready to fight for our cause.”

TROTTERS SIGN HATTERS MAN

Bolton Wanderers have sealed the signing of Luton Town’s Carlos Mendes Gomes.

The former Morecambe star, who was on loan at Fleetwood Town last season, has joined on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

“This is an important deal for us and I’m grateful to the board for allowing us to get it done," said Trotters boss Ian Evatt. “He’s a proven performer in our current division and, at just 24, someone we believe is capable of going higher again and progessing on this journey with us."

BROUGH KEEN FOR TV DATE

Northampton Town’s former Carlisle United man Patrick Brough is looking forward to playing on the League One stage this season.

And the Silloth star, who left Barrow to join the Cobblers, is looking ahead to some big occasions coming up.

“When you see we’re gonna be on telly against Derby at the start of September, that’s the sort of thing you want,” Brough told the BBC.

STEVENAGE DUO TO MISS START

Steve Evans says Dan Sweeney and summer signing Harry Anderson should return to action a couple of weeks into the new season as they work their way back from operations.

"Harry had a little operation on what people would have called the old Gilmore groin,” Evans told The Comet.

“We’ll probably be talking about seeing Harry two weeks into the season but he was a big signing for us.”
