Former Carlisle United star Omari Patrick has joined League Two club Sutton United.
The Blues' Wembley goalscorer, who turned down the chance to remain with Carlisle this summer, has returned to the fourth tier in south London.
Patrick's move to Gander Green Lane was confirmed today after he attended their friendly against Woking last night.
The 27-year-old joins Sutton a week and a half before the new season.
Sutton boss Matt Gray, speaking on his club's website, said: "I'm delighted to have Omari on board. He's a player I've admired for a number of seasons, and after scoring at Wembley and getting promoted with Carlisle things haven't worked out for him there.
He lives very close to our training ground, so to move him back home and have him in our squad is a good move for us and him, as I think he's aplayer that will suit us and we'll suit him, and I look forward to working with him."
Patrick, who scored United's equaliser in their League Two play-off final victory over Stockport County in May, had been offered new terms by the Blues.
Manager Paul Simpson, though, said the former Bradford City man had sought reassurances that he would be played on the wing rather than up front.
Simpson said he could not guarantee that, and Patrick left as a free agent.
Patrick, speaking in a club interview at Sutton, confirmed that his wish to play on the wing was a motivating factor behind leaving Brunton Park.
"It was more of a move for me - I wanted to play in a position that suited me and my strengths.
"It was nice to end the season with a promotion but week-in, week-out I wasn't enjoying my football as much as I could or should have.
"So I feel like here is the right place for me to come to produce what I can produce."
Patrick said he retains fondness for the Blues, adding of their Wembley win: "The boys deserved it, everybody at Carlisle deserved it.
"They worked hard all season. The fans deserved it, after a tough time last year. It was definitely good to leave like that."
Patrick said of his wish to play in a specific role: "I'm a winger.
"I've been playing more as a striker, it's made me a bit more diverse, just in case I was ever called upon to play there, so it has benefited me.
"But I'm more of a winger and want to get back to doing what I can do."
Speaking about the move to Sutton, he added: "The gaffer [Gray] got in contact with me and my team, I had a meeting with him, it went very well - I was so happy with how he went about it, and his intentions for me and the club."
Patrick's competitive debut for Sutton could come in their fourth-tier opener against Notts County on August 5.
He made 109 appearances and scored 21 goals across two 18-month Carlisle spells, from 2020-21 and 2022-23.
His first spell saw Patrick help United to safety under Chris Beech, while he was a key figure in their survival under Simpson in 2021/22.
Last season brought just five goals but came with that memorable finale at the national stadium.
