Jayden Harris is working hard on his game in order to make a real breakthrough at Carlisle United, says Gavin Skelton.

The midfielder scored the Blues’ latest pre-season goal in their draw at Chorley in midweek.

It comes as former Aldershot Town and Fulham man Harris bids to push his way into Paul Simpson’s first-team thinking in his second season at the club.

Harris saw game time limited in his first campaign in Cumbria but is desperate to force his way into their League One reckoning.

“He’s a good, physical athlete and he’s tidying his game up, he’s been working on parts of his game,” said assistant boss Skelton.

“It’ll be interesting to see how he goes this season.”

Harris, who joined on a three-year deal last summer, made just three league starts last term amid a total of 24 appearances in league and cup.

Boss Simpson has affirmed his belief in the 23-year-old this summer, believing his attributes could yet make him a major player at Carlisle.

He made his mark at Chorley by bursting into the box and firing home a Taylor Charters pass.

The second half in Lancashire was a more frustrating affair and now Harris will hope for a chance against Dundee United in Carlisle’s final friendly on Saturday.

“You could see why he needed minutes [At Chorley], because in the second half he did tire which is natural,” Skelton added.

“But in the first half he did cause them problems with his positive runs.”
