Maguire's next move was to Dundalk, but it was at Cork City where he then hit serious form, a glut of goals soon coming, as well as a cup final winner - and if it wasn't the cleanest of strikes, well, you make your own luck...
Maguire then made his big move back to English football with Preston North End, a five-and-a-half year spell at Deepdale starting in 2017 - the striker immediately endearing himself to North End fans with this lovely finish on his debut against Lancashire rivals Burnley...
During his time at Preston, Maguire earned full international honours with the Republic of Ireland, a 3-1 win over New Zealand in December 19 bringing him his first senior goal for his country. And very nice it was too...
Now, after a half-season spell at Coventry City, Maguire will be hoping to revive some of those memories at Brunton Park.
