Manchester United have reportedly enquired about Everton's former Carlisle United star Jarrad Branthwaite.
And the Old Trafford giants are said to have been quoted £25m if they want to sign the Cumbrian.
A report by Football Insider claims that Man Utd have made a move for the Wigton star.
The 21-year-old impressed during a season-long loan at PSV Eindhoven last season and is gearing up for the new Premier League campaign with Everton.
Branthwaite, though, has been the subject of transfer speculation throughout the summer with West Ham United having been linked with a move for the Cumbrian.
It now remains to be seen if Man Utd will firm up their own interest in the left-sided central defender.
Branthwaite enjoyed a memorable summer as part of England Under-21s' European Championshps winning squad.
That followed a campaign when the big defender played 27 top-flight games for Dutch side PSV last season, a spell during which he was said to be catching the eye of a number of top European clubs.
As ever the speculation surrounding Branthwaite will keep Carlisle United interested, given the Blues stand to benefit from a sell-on clause following his move from Brunton Park to Goodison Park in January 2020.
Carlisle chief executive Nigel Clibbens recently hinted that a move involving Branthwaite would be more lucrative to the club than other transfers involving former academy players James Trafford and Dean Henderson.
Trafford recently joined Burnley from Manchester City while fellow keeper Henderson's potential move to Nottingham Forest from Manchester United remains unresolved.
“Other than probably Jarrad, the cash we could earn from the two goalkeeper deals is not going to be transformational for this club," Clibbens told a Carlisle fans' forum in June.
Branthwaite made his latest pre-season appearance as a substitute in Everton's 1-0 win over Sporting Lisbon on Saturday.
