It has generally been good news all the way since Carlisle United's play-off final success last season.
But then some so-called fans threw objects on to the pitch against Fleetwood on Saturday and jeopardised everything.
During the summer, shirts sales and commercial sponsorship flourished, bringing extra revenue into the club that will be welcomed by manager Paul Simpson as he seeks to strengthen his side for League One.
Now, some of that cash risks being eaten away if the EFL clamps down on United with a heavy fine.
It is not the first time missiles have been thrown from the Warwick Road End and it is such a shame because the enthusiasm of the vast majority of the crowd behind the goal has helped improve the Brunton Park atmosphere.
But the referee had to stop the game twice on Saturday as a result of items being thrown, marring an entertaining draw.
The CUOSC board had no hesitation in supporting the club’s decision to suspend sales of Warwick Road end tickets for the up and coming matches against Wigan and Exeter.
We are disappointed it has come to this but understand the reasons behind the decision.
We know the vast majority of our fans behave themselves but if they have seen something or have any information about the culprits we would appeal to them to report it to the stewards, police of SLO by telephoning: 07891779015. They can also email CUOSC at info@cuosc.org.uk
An urgent meeting of Carlisle United Supporters Groups is to be held today to discuss the issue.
If we all work together we can stamp out this disruptive and illegal behaviour.
Meanwhile, CUOSC go into the new season continuing to focus on trying to break the 1,000 members’ barrier.
Currently, we have just under 800 members, around 200 up on the figure this time last season and are still waiting for some to renew.
We are determined to keep the momentum going as we compete in League One for the first time in nine years.
The more members we have the more money we have available to help the club. We have sponsored striker Ryan Edmondson this season and are also committed to helping the Carlisle Ladies team with their travel arrangements.
CUOSC has a voice on two of the club’s boards while members get discount in the club shop and have a priority level for in demand ticket games.
