TOWN boss Anthony Murray has reflected on a positive season, as the town look to play their last league away game next Wednesday.
Workington Town RLFC have had a stellar season, confirming their place in the League One play offs, with the coach Head Coach saying their hopes are still alive for the fourth spot.
Speaking on the season, Anthony said: “It’s been really positive we're in the play offs, we secured fifth spot weeks ago and we are still in the hunt to possibly finish fourth, if someone had said that to me at the beginning of the season that we would definitely secure fifth and possibly have the points to finish fourth would you take it, I would have absolutely snapped their hand off.
“On that side of thigs it’s really positive we have reached our goal which was to get in the play offs and hopefully we can get a few bodies back on field, have a good run in these last couple of games and then see where the play offs take us.”
And preparations are very much underway for next year, with the Town Boss saying the club are ‘busy in recruitment’ for the 2024 season.
He said: “Were signing players who we want to sign, we are busy in recruitment for next year and that’s started really positive with Ciaran Walker, Jordan Burns and Dave Eccleston, with more to follow, so really good and were just really looking forward to the closing stages of the season.”
Town travel to Oldham for their penultimate match of the season on Wednesday, August 23 in a re-arranged fixture with the Lancashire side.
“It’s going to be tough Oldham have got a really tough game against Rochdale on Sunday, but I’m looking forward to going down there on Wednesday night and depending on how the Oldham results gone it will be a really exciting game on Wednesday.
“We just want to give a good account of ourselves. All the top teams that we have played, we have given a good account of ourselves.”
The last game of the season will take place at the Fibrus Community Stadium the following Sunday, August 27 against Hunslet RLFC, with kick off at 3pm.
