Cumbrian James Trafford kept a clean sheet while Liam Delap - son of Carlisle United favourite Rory - scored in England Under-21s' latest outing.

The European Championships 2025 qualifier saw Lee Carsley's side win 3-0 in Luxembourg.

Goalkeeper Trafford, from Greysouthen, followed his starring summer Euros displays with another shut-out.

And striker Delap marked his Under-21 debut with the first goal as England cruised to victory.

It was a first outing for the Under-21s since they won this summer's Euros - a tournament in which Trafford did not concede a single goal.

The 20-year-old, who left Manchester City for Burnley after the tournament, got the nod to start again by boss Carsley.

Most of the action was at the other end though England had to wait until late in the first half to open the scoring.

And when they did it was a first U21 strike for 20-year-old Delap, whose dad was a home-grown star for the Blues in the 1990s.

Delap junior, who is on loan at Hull City from Manchester City, struck from close range to give England a half-time lead.

Further goals from Callum Doyle and Cole Palmer made victory comfortable, while Trafford denied Miguel Gonçalves on the hour mark.

The keeper later did well to keep out a Noah Rossler shot as England secured victory in their first qualifier, with Delap substituted in the 63rd minute.

Trafford's fellow Cumbrian, Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, pulled out of the squad to have treatment on a minor injury.
