Paul Simpson has paid tribute to Callum Guy after the Carlisle United midfielder hit a milestone for the Blues.
Guy, ahead of Saturday's reunion with boyhood club Derby County, is now on 150 appearances for the club following last weekend’s outing at Lincoln City.
The 26-year-old has reached the figure after first joining the Blues back in January 2020.
Guy has been a mainstay of the side in the last three-and-a-half years and remains a key part of things in League One.
His performance in the 1-1 draw at Lincoln typified what the midfielder brings to the table, manager Simpson said.
“We had Callum and others working so hard, and that’s what it’s about,” said the Blues manager.
“We had the base and he made the blocks, and he moved the ball for us and started a lot of things off.
“He showed real control, so it’s good to hear that’s 150 and hopefully he has a lot more to come.”
Guy is the latest Blues player to reach a milestone after striker Joe Garner hit his 150th career goal recently.
The veteran frontman hit that number with his late goal at Stevenage earlier this month.
Guy’s next outing for United, meanwhile, will be against the club where he started his professional career.
The midfielder came through the ranks at Derby County, having joined the club aged nine.
Initially a winger, he progressed through the ranks in what would become his main position in central midfield.
Guy emerged through the Rams’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides and earned a professional deal at 18.
While he made three loan moves during his time at Pride Park – to Port Vale, Bradford City and Blackpool – just one first-team outing came his way for his parent club, as a substitute in Derby’s 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat at Barnsley in September 2017.
From there, a permanent move to Blackpool followed before Guy joined the Cumbrians under Chris Beech in the January 2020 transfer window.
He earned player-of-the-season honours in his first full campaign with the club, and went on to captain Carlisle in the 2021/22 season – before returning to the ranks to help the Cumbrians to promotion under another former Derby man, Paul Simpson.
Saturday’s game at Brunton Park will be Guy's first against Derby.
