Wade Elliott, boss of goalless strugglers Cheltenham Town, has become League One's third managerial casualty of the season.
The Robins have failed to score in their opening eight league games as they sit bottom of the table.
And manager Elliott has now paid the price for their sterile form.
A 3-0 midweek defeat at Peterborough United proved the final straw for the Whaddon Road club.
A record of one point and a goal difference of -12 from their first eight games spelled the end for Elliott's 15-month tenure.
His assistant Kevin Russell has been placed in caretaker charge.
In a statement, Cheltenham said:
Cheltenham Town have today parted company with first team manager Wade Elliott by mutual consent.
The Directors would like to place on record their appreciation for Wade’s contribution since joining the club as a coach in September 2020, playing a significant role in the League Two title win and then the Club's highest finish alongside Michael Duff. He was named head coach last summer and went on to achieve the Club's second highest finish in his own right.
Assistant manager Kevin Russell has been asked to take interim charge of the team against Stevenage at The Completely-Suzuki Stadium on Saturday.
Carlisle face Cheltenham at Brunton Park on December 23 with the return trip to Gloucestershire on January 20.
Elliott follows Fleetwood Town's Scott Brown and Charlton Athletic's Dean Holden in losing his job early in the 2023/24 League One season.
Fleetwood have since turned to Lee Johnson while Charlton have appointed Michael Appleton.
