Cumbrian defender Jarrad Branthwaite has all the ingredients to go to the very top of the game.
So says the Wigton star’s Everton defensive team-mate James Tarkowski.
Branthwaite is catching the eye with his displays in Sean Dyche’s rearguard early in the Premier League season.
The 21-year-old former Carlisle United player has started the Toffees’ last four games and his latest impressive showing came in Everton’s 3-1 win at Brentford last weekend.
Tarkowski, who scored in that victory, said Branthwaite’s potential is huge.
"He's calm, technically very good, physical and quick. He's also got size,” said Tarkowski.
“He's got everything to go to the very top at the game, especially for his age.
“I didn't see too much of him last season [while Branthwaite was on loan at PSV Eindhoven], so this was my first real look and I've been really impressed."
Branthwaite started the season on the bench but fans were soon urging Dyche to promote the young Cumbrian into the first team.
He duly got his chance and has started against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield United, Arsenal and Brentford.
Branthwaite’s form also recently came in for praise from former Everton and England star Trevor Steven.
Another ex-pro impressed with the Cumbrian is former Wimbledon favourite Robbie Earle.
He said Branthwaite has been “outstanding”.
Speaking on The 2 Robbies Podcast on NBC Sports YouTube channel, Earle added: “I think [Everton] felt like going to another country would mature [Branthwaite] as a player and as a man – I think that is the case and they’re really happy with the progress he’s made.
“He’s quick over the ground, he’s left-footed, he’s got a good temperament about him, he’s improving all the time, and there’s already talk of people like Manchester United having a look at him.
“I think he’s learning from Tarkowski, who’s really improved and has always been a bit of a leader and will defend for his life.
“He’s a young player who if you can keep an eye on and if he can maintain a partnership, is going to be as important for Everton as anybody else in that squad.”
