England boss Gareth Southgate is reportedly monitoring Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford ahead of next year’s European Championships.

The young keeper from Greysouthen has enjoyed a meteoric rise and is currently embarking on his first Premier League season with Burnley.

Trafford starred for England Under-21s in this year’s Euros triumph and the 20-year-old, who joined Burnley from Manchester City this summer, is on Southgate’s radar.

Mail Online report that the England boss is keeping tabs on the former Carlisle United academy prospect.

It comes at a time that England’s second-choice gloveman, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, has lost his place to David Raya at the Emirates Stadium.

Trafford has started all Burnley’s games in the top-flight so far this season, having stepped up two divisions in first-team football following last season’s loan spell with Bolton Wanderers in League One.

His fellow Cumbrian goalkeeper Dean Henderson, meanwhile, is facing more injury concern.

The Whitehaven star was forced out of his Crystal Palace debut after just 19 minutes against Manchester United this week.

The Carabao Cup tie saw Henderson in the Eagles side for the first time to face his former club.

But he was felled by a leg injury and the Cumbrian will now undergo a scan.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson said after the game: “Often we have to wait a day or two before they can even do the scan, so at the moment we just know that he had a very unfortunate end to a game that he was really looking forward to playing.”

Henderson returned to fitness this summer after a thigh injury lay-off in the second half of last season, when he was on loan with Nottingham Forest.

The England international had been hoping to challenge Sam Johnstone for the No1 slot at Selhurst Park but now faces a further wait to push his first-team Premier League claims.
