Cumbrian stars James Trafford and Jarrad Branthwaite have received their latest England Under-21 call-ups.

The duo have been named in Lee Carsley's squad for European Championship qualifiers with Serbia and Ukraine.

Goalkeeper Trafford and defender Branthwaite will aim to feature in the games next Thursday and Monday week respectively.

And they are joined in the squad by striker Liam Delap, son of former Carlisle United favourite Rory.

Burnley keeper Trafford, from Greysouthen, is established as the Under-21s No1 after his starring role in their Euros success in the summer.

Everton defender Branthwaite, from Wigton, will now look to add to his one U21 cap to date, having withdrawn from the previous international squad through injury.

For Branthwaite the call-up caps a big day in the 21-year-old's career after he was awarded a new four-year contract at Everton.

Both young Cumbrians and former Carlisle academy players have been playing regularly in the Premier League for their clubs so far this season.

England U21s take on Serbia at Nottingham Forest's City Ground next Thursday before an away game against Ukraine in Slovakia four days later.

Head coach Carsley said: “When we look at the Euro Elite League squad (previously MU20s), that’s also a very competitive age group and we want to have them in the position where they are pushing these players in the older age group.

“This is a really tough camp for us, against two teams that are very well respected, and we’ve had to do our homework on them. We’re expecting two really tough games.”
