Peter Reid is the latest leading football figure to predict bright things for Cumbrian defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
The former England midfielder believes Everton’s Wigton star Branthwaite has a “great future” in the game.
Branthwaite, 21, has shone for the Toffees after getting a run in their Premier League side early this season.
And Reid, speaking to the Liverpool Echo, said of the ex-Carlisle United man: “I think he has done great, the kid.
“I think he looks composed – he’s got a bit about him, and he has been very impressive.
“I think he has a great future ahead of him. I like him.
"I think he reads the game really well, and I think he smells danger, which I like from defenders.
“He’s gone in there and he’s done smashing. I just think the more games he plays, the better he gets."
Branthwaite is in the frame to add to his one England Under-21 cap with the young Lions facing two Euro qualifiers.
The defender and fellow Cumbrian James Trafford are in Lee Carsley’s squad to take on Serbia and Ukraine in games tonight and next Monday.
Branthwaite has enjoyed a significant spell in his young career, having signed a new long-term deal at Goodison Park recently.
He has impressed in Sean Dyche’s back line following a successful loan spell at PSV Eindhoven last season.
The ex-Carlisle academy player has attracted interest from a number clubs, with both Manchester United and Manchester City linked with the big defender.
Branthwaite is currently setting his sights on making further progress at the top level with Everton.
“Coming into the Premier League, it's the best league in the world, the hardest league in the world," he told Everton’s website. "There are going to be moments where I need to adapt, being so young.
"The loan [at PSV last season] has helped get me to where I am today, recently signing a new deal and playing in the Premier League.
“It was a big factor in the confidence I’ve brought into this season and the performances I’ve been putting out there.
"You have to have confidence in yourself otherwise you won’t be able to show what you are made of.
"I have taken my opportunity but I need to keep working hard, keep focused and keep those performances coming."
