A DOMINANT Whitehaven side finished 42-8 against Keswick’s second team at home on Saturday.
Whitehaven started strongly with some great work from the forwards and a try scored by Jamie Martin, setting the platform for the backs to play some great rugby and Chris Flynn then scoring.
It took Keswick about 20 minutes to get into the game, with a little luck and determination the team bounced back with a long range score.
Whitehaven played well as the forwards kept pushing on with some strong running from Kyle Jenkinson, Phil Southam, Jamie Martin and youngster Harry Naylor.
This work took its toll on a rugged Keswick side who started to tire as Whitehaven introduced Clarke Chambers, a player most would not want to face when their team is up against it.
There was more fantastic work from the backs ending with Jordan Scott getting on the scoresheet, Chris Flynn grabbing his second try and forward Phil Southam crashing over too.
Whitehaven thanked Keswick for the game and The Strand pub in Whitehaven for being their new main shirt sponsor this season.
Whitehaven RUFC captain Kyle Jenkinson said: “It’s amazing to have a local business as our main sponsor for the year.
“It was a great day down the playground with a good result from the lads. There was a great show of defensive grit with Keswick only getting a try from an error from us in their half.
“There was a dominant display from Whitehaven forwards who then released it to the backs who finished some great tries.”
