Carlisle United's fans gave us their thoughts on X after the cruel late defeat to Portsmouth. Here's a selection of their views.

Excellent game. We played well. A superb 2nd half. So close to grabbing all three points. We have to take the positives from this game, and there's loads, and get maximum points against Burton and Cambridge. (@BruceVander)

Held our own against the leaders. The away end almost sucked in Alfie’s effort against the post. Voice gone from that 45 minute chant in the second half. Pompey sausage rolls are the best I’ve ever tasted. Spirits remain high: we will get results playing like this today. (@AyeCumbrian)

Gutted, we deserved a point but we are CUFC and never do anything easily. We must start getting points otherwise we are going to be stranded in the relegation positions, other teams have games in hand.....very worrying. (@peterjo91525330)

Gutted. Pompey better of the 1st half, Carlisle excellent in the 2nd half, deserved something from that game (@MartinCrellin1)

Not getting a point feels awful & unfair.....but at least we had a performance. What we MUST do now is hit that same level (or more) on Tuesday. We HAVE to back it up with a performance and, let's be honest, a win. Otherwise, everything from today will count for nothing. (@1StevieKilner)

Game of two halves. Shows we can compete with the better teams in League One but competing alone is not yielding any great pressure on the opposition. Gotta find a way to get a credible goal threat - whether that is occupying the opposition defence or actually scoring we have to find it. (@Andythehood)

Good performance, but didn’t yield a result. We need to keep performance levels up and start getting points. Starting on Tuesday. (@dnm_thegoose)

We were magnificent in that 2nd half, every bit as good as top of the league. Didn’t deserve that ending, but if we can perform like that more often than not we will be fine. Gutted, but positive (@DRNoble25)

Deserved more from it & disappointing, but am I the only person who feels a little hopeful after that? We actually showed massive potential against top of the league (away) had chances, saved goals & they’re top. If we can be consistent like that & at Bolton then we’re ok (@trit0ps)

Overall I thought it was a good performance and deserved a point. I think with better decisions in certain positions and a bit more movement up top, we would be winning a few more games. Still long way to go and I’m sure we will pick up enough points to keep us up. (@philipscott20)

Story of our season probably, had our chances, battled hard & gave them a tough 90 minutes but coming up just short, hurts to lose like that but feel we can be proud of that second half performance. (@joeleigh95)

The boys played their hearts out and ran their socks off. Losing a goal in the 93rd of 94 minutes was cruel but they can walk away with heads lifted high. Even Pompey supporters felt Carlisle deserved the win. (@Alan_Matthews)

Hard to take, seems we were the better team in the second half. Peeve tonight, but not in celebration… (@cufc_andy17)

Cracking effort - but we just don't have the quality. That's the harsh reality. (@buzzisbackCUFC)

Didn’t get what we deserved, sickening losing like that, need to start picking up a few points though (@NavyDave94)

Better team second half, did not deserve to get beat. Crying out for a goal scorer (@GeoffRo39583097)

Heartbreaker, but can't fault the commitment or work rate (@cufccraig1983)

Pride in the effort and commitment. We just need to stay in this league this year, I think we will. (@AndyMortonPark)

The worst way to lose after 90 plus minutes of competitive football with the top team unbeaten at Fratton Park since March I think. Our lads are doing most things right except getting that flipping ball in the net. Hard to take today, I thought we were in for another Bolton. (@LindaNi121202)

Two wins from the next two games, and we’re right back on track. (@midlandscufc)
