CARLISLE United midfielder Owen Moxon is yet to make a decision on signing a new Blues contract according to boss Paul Simpson.

The 25-year-old midfielder's current Carlisle deal expires next summer, with the club offering their star player a new deal over the summer months.

Speaking ahead of the Blues' trip to Cambridge, Simpson confirmed that there had been no decision from Moxon that the previously described 'best contract that’s probably been offered to a Carlisle player' was still on the table.

He said: "No, unfortunately, no there isn't. I have conversations with him most weeks but there is no change on it, no decision made by him and that is basically what we are waiting for.

Simpson also explained how, whilst not imposing a deadline for a decision on the United midfielder, he has been beginning to think about life, potentially, without Owen Moxon.

He said: "I haven't done that yet but if he hasn't signed soon we are going to have to start preparing for him to be gone because as a football club, we have to move on.

"We all want Owen to stay. I think it would massively help his performances if he clears up that grey area of his life at the moment but that is out of my hands, that is only my personal opinion.

"I think if Owen Moxon decides he is not going to sign a new contract here we have to look for replacements, we have got to start bringing players in and I don't believe in cutting my nose off to spite my face but if Owen Moxon doesn't want to stay we might have to look at putting somebody else in the team and not giving him that opportunity in the shop window.

"It is a tricky situation because I want our best players in the team but I also want to make sure we do the best thing for our football club.
