Cumbrian prospect Joe White hopes his immediate future will be resolved in the coming days.
The Carlisle-born midfielder is currently starring on loan in League Two with Crewe Alexandra.
White, who is on loan from Newcastle United, caught the eye with an impressive winning goal (watch below) as the Railwaymen won at Mansfield Town on Saturday.
The skilful 21-year-old is wanted for the rest of the season by Crewe but recent reports say fellow League Two side and leaders Stockport County are keen on the Cumbrian.
He is on loan at fifth-placed Crewe until January 14 and boss Lee Bell told the Alex website: "It is in Newcastle’s hands - Joe wants to stay and we want him to stay.
“I’m going to have to speak to them again and try to sort something. We are giving him the opportunity to play and express himself and that will help him further down the line."
White, speaking after his heroics in the 1-0 win at Mansfield - where he scored his third senior goal - said he hoped things would become clearer soon.
"I've loved every minute of it," he said.
"I don't know what's happening next but I just want to thank everyone here [at Crewe].
"I don't know what's going to happen but we'll see hopefully in the next few days.
"It's been up in the air for so long, kind of because of the Newcastle injuries and stuff, which they can't do anything about.
"For me, I want it finalised and hopefully something can happen before the weekend."
White, who is the grandson of the late former Carlisle United player, coach and physio and Workington Reds manager Peter Hampton, said his time at Crewe has been easily his best loan so far, having had previous spells at Hartlepool United and Exeter City.
He added that it was "the best feeling ever" to hear fans singing his name after the game, with White back to full fitness after recent injury and illness problems.
