Carlisle United fans gave us their views on social media platform X after the 3-1 defeat to Oxford United - here's a selection of their comments.

Until they scored with help from the officials, they didn't look anything special but grew in confidence and controlled large parts of the game. Everyone knows what we need and we just need to hope the new players help the team click and we turn things around. (@scholes_peter)

Quality, quality, quality. That's what we are missing in positions all over the pitch. I accept that we had limited funds in the summer, but the result is that we will have to go backwards to go forward. (@BruceVander)

We had our chances and if we'd taken them as ruthlessly as Oxford we'd have won. We have to be patient. Again, we (and the lino) gifted them goals. There is more depth and quality in this team but we are still missing a couple more at least. (@adydent67)

What we don't have this season is luck, at least six inches of it because that's how close our goals have been to going in. You can't buy luck, sorry Piataks, but you can make your own. These players are going to have to step up and find some if we're to survive. (@JHallHDI)

I thought the start was very positive. Bossed the game for the first 15 mins at least. Oxford looked disjointed at that point. Just couldn’t take advantage. We seem to take some crazy pot shots at times. Going way off target. Maybe some more composure needed. (@Davvytommo)

I don't think we can question the effort today, the lads tried, but it just wasn't working today. Can't expect new signings to make a difference overnight and Armstrong needs better service. I think Simmo deserves more time to build the team he wants, stay up or go down. (@Blue_lucy_88)

Dodgy officials, and decisions and lack of quality is bringing us down. I now reluctantly think that we will not survive, I hope I am wrong. We have to stick with Simmo, no one else will perform a miracle. (@peterjo91525330)

New players have to settle in and learn to play with new teammates, you won’t get the team playing well till they know each other. I think Simpson deserves the chance to try to keep us up we overachieved last season. (@DavidTe36827698)

New signings have barely had any real time to have any kind of impact. There is nobody better at managing this club that would be available. You can't have a long term vision and suddenly change manager. Simpson took the club into League One seasons ahead of schedule. He has to be given time. (@CoachKnapovic)

I’m now sadly reverting to a position of assuming we will go down, hoping not of course. So, when I relate 23-24 to 62-63 (as I have done before!) I will now do so in a positive way. Look what we did from 63-64 onwards! Glory days. Let’s enjoy the ride again @CastleSportsGrp (@NotInSeddon)

Jordan Gibson my man of the match. Can't understand why he only played 30 minutes. Got to find a way of scoring first in games. Everything else would fall into place if we did. (@MikeEwins(

Defenders who can’t defend. Midfielders who can’t/won’t run. No leaders on the pitch. The players aren’t even doing the bare minimum at the moment. (@PeteMcCormick6)

Well, being disappointed is becoming the norm a-la past seasons and after last season it's hard to take. I expected to see Armstrong getting into more scoring positions but apart from being well marked by their giant number 5 he wasn't set up by any of our other forwards. Keeping the faith - what else is there. At least we weren't cast further adrift today, Oxford aren't top 6 for nothing! (@LindaNi121202)

Dodgy refereeing decisions. But no excuse Carlisle not good enough on the day.. (@alantorchwood)

Thought it was a good game. Result obviously disappointing but I think we were unlucky with some refereeing decisions. Don’t know how McCalmont got MOTM. Gibson is frustrating, some great play but not working with Robinson. If he can’t cross with his left, pass to the Robinson (NeilRut95769535)

Too many not good enough. Major, MAJOR overhaul needed. There isn’t many I’d keep, bar the new lads. (@ScottBeeby1)

Some poor officials again today but again we just can’t seem to get the bodies in the box and put the ball between the sticks. We have had bad luck with injuries this season and just haven’t had a team that gel like last year. We need Hunts back and am not sure on Moxon (@DebbieO44624281)

Frustratingly good in flashes, shame they can't do it for 90 mins. Butterworth almost Rod Thomas-esque at times. And Joey Garner reminding us why everyone needs a Joey Garner in their team. (@mtuj1974)

Same old same old, better then last week but still not enough. Not sure how many fresh faces can save us (@cufcaidan)

Just not good enough across the pitch, Simmo also needs questioned? In a side struggling for creativity Gibson spends too much time on the bench. Need some pace up front and defenders who can defend (@Halpinforpope)

Pretty much the same, bright start followed by poor marking, poor passing, poor quality, poor ball control and an inability to do anything but boot the ball to a centre-forward who at looks out of his depth. Very difficult situation and unlikely to survive the drop now. (@Dougmacd9826)

We lack pace and athleticism. Can’t dominate for 20 mins and not make it count. (@LaurieBrunskill)

Sick of the same old negative tactics. Our style of play is uninspiring, if you allow players to get their head up then anybody will look like Brazil. You can throw as much money as you want at it but the time has come to question the tactical ability of our leader unfortunately (@Wisey6575)

All the bed wetters & master tacticians back out on socials…toxic & clueless . Go with it…never been straight forward being a Blues fan. Folk forget teams like Oxford are miles ahead of us on the pitch right now. No sight for the big picture from some. Simmo’s the right man. (@AdWhitfield94)

Not good, not bad. Too naive. (@carlisl9125)

Paul Simpson deserves respect and credit for what he’s achieved but that doesn’t mean you just let things deteriorate at this rate. Tactically inept and unbelievably predictable. 3/4 of 2023 was poor, we went from automatics to 7th… Wembley was amazing, thanks for the memories… (@LindsayDougie)

I genuinely think that anything that can go wrong has and we are due a break or two. One thing I fear Luke getting thrown under the bus a bit, he has a good reputation but needs help, we looked better with 2 proper front players on and that’s the way forward, we need a win (@Englishbear71)
