Jayden Harris will return to Carlisle United next week with Eastleigh deciding against an extended loan spell for the midfielder.
The Blues man has been with the National League club since October.
The 24-year-old plays his last game for the Spitfires this weekend with boss Richard Hill opting not to seek a further spell for Harris.
He has made 15 appearances and scored twice for the Hampshire club and there remains the possibility of another loan move for the ex-Fulham and Aldershot Town man this winter.
“I've had a conversation with Richard Hill, and Jayden will be returning to us after Saturday's game,” said United boss Paul Simpson.
“Hilly has said to me that he's had some really good games, but he just hasn't done enough to warrant keeping him longer.
“So Jayden will be back into us on Monday morning.
“Jayden wants to be involved in the [Eastleigh] game [against Oldham Athletic] on Saturday, even though he knows he's coming back.
“So [then] he'll be back in with us. And we'll see where we go from that.”
Simpson last week said another club had registered an interest in taking Harris on loan.
Whether that will now develop remains to be seen.
“I’ll be honest, I haven't followed it up yet – we've said [to them] ‘He's out at the moment, and he'll be back after the Saturday game, so if you still have an interest come back to us’," added Simpson.
“Even though I've kept in touch with Richard Hill, throughout the whole of the loan, we weren't certain what was going to happen.
“So now that we do know, we'll wait and see whether anybody comes back in for him. And if it's the right thing for us and for him, then we'll certainly consider it.”
Simpson said Carlisle have also had enquiries for Max Kilsby, the young defender who recently returned from his half-season loan at Annan Athletic.
But the United boss is not currently in a hurry to let the left-sided player back out.
He has been hoping to assess Kilsby in reserve games. Asked whether any such fixtures were in the offing, Simpson said: “I'm not really sure at the moment. And it's been a real tricky one.
“But I do feel it was the right thing to do [to bring him back].
“We have had enquiries from other clubs to take Max as well. But at the moment, I still want him around here.
“I want to see if any others of ours leave the club. There's nothing imminent at the moment of anybody leaving, but we may get enquiries for players and we need to make sure that we've covered on all areas.”
United have Kai Nugent out on loan for the season while three youth players are on work experience loans – Sam Hetherington at Workington Reds, and Romeo Park and Jacob Barry who joined Carlisle City this week.
