Charlton Athletic are the latest of Carlisle United's fellow League One strugglers to sack their manager.
Michael Appleton was dismissed on Tuesday night after the Addicks' 3-2 home defeat to Northampton Town.
He is the second manager to lose his job at the south London club already this season after Dean Holden's earlier dismissal.
Appleton leaves Charlton 16th but level on points with fifth-bottom Shrewsbury Town after their latest setback.
Northampton's injury-time winner meant Charlton have suffered three straight defeats and lost six of their last seven games in a ten-match winless league run.
Appleton was only appointed in September but the former Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, Oxford United, Portsmouth and Lincoln City boss has now departed.

In a short statement, Charlton said: "Charlton Athletic can confirm that Michael Appleton has left the club with immediate effect after being relieved of his role as head coach.
"The club would like to thank Michael for his efforts during his time in charge."
He is the second boss at an out-of-form League One club to lose his job in the space of three days.
His sacking follows that of Matt Taylor at Shrewsbury on Sunday.
Both the Shrews and Charlton are ten points above Carlisle in the third-tier survival battle.
Appleton's Charlton drew 1-1 at Brunton Park in November. United head to The Valley for the return game on March 9.
Charlton's 3-2 defeat to Northampton included a first Addicks start for ex-Carlisle defender Macaulay Gillesphey, who recently joined the club from Plymouth Argyle.
Results elsewhere in League One on Tuesday night mean Carlisle are ten points adrift of safety with 18 game left in the 2023/24 campaign.
