Paul Simpson says he’s had no contact from the EFL despite Bradford City urging the league to take action over his Jake Young comments.
Bantams chief executive Ryan Sparks recently said the EFL’s rules and regulations meant it would be “interesting” to see if they would clamp down on the Blues boss.
It followed Simpson responding to a question from the News & Star about speculation linking the Blues to striker Young by saying he his club were asking for a “ridiculous” fee.
Sparks and Bradford manager Graham Alexander said it was wrong for United’s boss to publicly discuss another club’s player, and the chief executive raised the possibility of EFL attention.
“I’m not sure what the EFL’s opinion is on the matter, although I know what the rules and regulations state, and it will be interesting to see if any action is taken,” the Bantams director said.
But asked if the league had indeed threatened action since then, Simpson replied: “No.
“I haven't read anything [in terms of those comments] to be honest with you.
“So listen, that's up to them. They can do what they want.
“I don't really know what I said that could get me brought up by the EFL.
“I mean, it seems quite ridiculous that they're talking about that when the EFL didn't take any action against their fans abusing me during the game [at Bradford last season], but that’s another matter…”
Carlisle are among the clubs to have been linked with Young, with Bradford’s Sparks saying they have turned down three bids for the player.
It followed the striker’s impressive 16-goal haul in a half-season loan with Swindon Town this campaign.
Simpson initially said Carlisle “couldn’t afford” Young but later revised his comment to say they could, but they did not regard the fee quoted by League Two club Bradford as good business.
Derby County, Port Vale and Exeter City are among the other clubs linked with the 22-year-old. The Telegraph & Argus yesterday reported that the forward is back in training with his parent club after injury.
Simpson yesterday brought in Jack Diamond and Josh Vela and said he is keen to sign another forward.
