Carlisle United fans gave us their reaction on social media platform X after the 4-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers - here's a selection of their comments.
No quality. No fight. No sign of a tactical plan. So poor at set plays and in possession. Long, long way off. (@parkinsonross)
We were outplayed all over the pitch. United are in many ways still a Lge 2 squad. The new signings will help, and we have to enjoy the rebuild for next season. We have to accept that going back will help us go forward. (@BruceVander)
Diamond & Neal looked potentially good additions. Otherwise we were pants. Very sluggish first half - no, make that comatose. Second half started with a better effort, but then Bolton woke up. Dire. (@NotInSeddon)
Outclassed all over the pitch. (@Nick_Brown86)
Played a team that has been built over the last 4 / 5 seasons. We are just at the start of building a team and it showed in the gulf in class. Hard work and endeavour was all on show. Let Simmo get on and build a team to bounce straight back next season (@MartinCrellin1)
Going down with a whimper I'm afraid. Yes Bolton very good team but to gift them 2 goals in 1st half then we got what we deserved (@FyldeVandal)
Really can't understand why our main source of goals this season, Jordan Gibson, doesn't start every week. Wouldn't mind if Simmo's line-ups and tactics were working, but they aren't. To keep our fantastic support on side, there must be signs of improvement soon. (@MikeEwins)
From the outset the tactics were wrong, we sat back and let them dictate things. They took advantage of this and ran the show, first half. Second half we were better but the gulf in class was too much. It has been a very disappointing season with little to cheer. UTB. (@peterjo91525330)
A very poor first half, some glimpses in the second but after the Barnsley game where we played well, we were back to our old selves. Such a lack of ambition not playing the guy who put 3 past them at their place, mystifying. (@richard84408640)
Why start someone who doesn't want to be there? Don't appear to have any tactical plan. Looked really dispirited today. Diamond looks to have a trick. Vela looked decent when he came on. Gibson looked a threat, he always does but he starts on the bench. Neal outstanding. Down. (@FeelingHoly)
Just poor. I know Bolton are good team But Armstrong must have a sore neck. We have little, or no tactical nuance, I think we are down. The real pressure is next year. It’s unacceptable to be out of the top 3-4 all year and we should be back up straight away (@AndyMortonPark)
Starting 11 was odd given the new signings we’ve made. First half we we chased shadows but changing things at half-time put us on the front and we started asking some questions. Armstrong and Mellish worked hard all game and Diamond looks a decent addition. Both full backs poor. (@Wisey6575)
Bolton probably the best side to come to BP this season & that’s been lost. 'Simmo out' craic is boring clart imo & don’t get criticism for clapping the lads off either, got to take the rough with the smooth. Bolton levels above is the be all/end all of today, simple as that (@AdWhitfield94)
They were just better, and further along the road . Sometimes it's that simple (@vanqate)
Showed far too much respect to them. If we go down I want us to go down with fight not a whimper, absolutely appalling performance (@JoshuaMusgrave3)
Got the tactics wrong in the first half today. Stop hoofing the ball!! Armstrong can win the headers, but there's nobody playing off him?? Second half much better and we are far better playing the ball on the deck, damage done in first 45. (@mottsciddler)
How about getting the players fired up before the game, rather than when we are trailing at half time? Seems to be a pattern forming of lacklustre effort, then a 10 min burst in the second half. (@Davvytommo)
2nd best all over the pitch, Bolton a very good side but very hard to watch (@cufccraig1983)
It’s no better than Millen's football and at least he had an idea what he was striving for. Isolating Armstrong and lumping the ball long is pitiful. At no time do the players ever look like they are adhering to a game plan or fixed tactic. (@Grahamocat)
This is how I felt when McKirdy and Swindon tore us apart @officialcufc we need to see some fight and some kind of desire to win. (@PaulMar21281685)
Those new signings should have been fired right in from the start. What must Vela be thinking when he sees Mellish moved from defence to midfield mid game. (@fatflags)
Time to go I’m afraid, 7 wins in 50. Leaving out our top goalscorer who bagged 3 against the side we faced today last time out. Awful stone age style of play and a routine from kick off not seen since 1998. (@CarlisleBlue1)
What an absolute waste of an opportunity this season has been. (@krisfoster)
Hard to take. I can't say the R word, too much pride. (@carlisle9125)
Can we end the season now please (@dougrmurphy)
Rarely have I thought we were played off the park, today we were by a team heading higher with some very good, above L1 quality players. Gibson's cracking goal gave us hope, short lived tho and the disappointing antics of @_kyledempsey were, well, not that of a former CU player! (@LindaNi121202)
We've left ourselves an impossible task now. Our "tactics" have been like this since Jan last year. Corner blocking has been happening for weeks now; no plan to counter it. We are being out thought and I think Simmo needs some new coaches around him, & may need to move upstairs (@adydent67)
