Carlisle United fans gave us their views on social media platform X after the 3-2 defeat at Leyton Orient which sent the Blues bottom of League One.
Here's a selection of their comments.
Start every game with 5 at the back to invite pressure and make every team look like Brazil. Don’t retain possession but give it away cheaply playing hoofball into nowhere. Confidence was undermined in October when the players were told they weren’t good enough for this level (@Wisey6575)
Yes poor again but give the new signings time to settle in. We’ve been on the back foot since end of last season. Need to get some confidence and finish the season with some momentum (@RichPerci)
Quite literally one of the worst team performances ever. From an undeserved 1-0 to a whimpering defeat. Shocking. To be fair I had to be reminded it was 3-1 before we got the pen only made it worse! (@McCarlisle1)
In Oct we knew we had to recruit and needed League One players. Over Xmas, with Armstrong there were high hopes. We all saw the gaps, we have strengthened but not enough and we know what's coming. Winning teams take time to form. Bolton: 5yrs. Maybe we are impatient but it hurts going down (@adydent67)
We were told on deadline day that we’d have an ‘attack minded’ approach to the game, yet we only had 3 shots, one of them being a penalty. We’re all but down at this point, just need to find a tactic that works to finish the season strong. (_olicaig)
My biggest fear is all the good will and feeling around the club might get eroded away by such a bloody awful season on the pitch. Staff, players and owners really need to get a grip of this. This season is gone, don’t sugar coat, let’s get a grip so we are good to go in L2 (@Halpinforpope)
We’ve let 12 goals in in the last 4 games, almost a quarter of the season total of 50, is Lewis no better than what we’ve already used in goal this season or are we just getting worse defensively? If so, why no experienced centre half brought in? (@PeteMcCormick6)
Same old story, what was the game plan? I am losing patience, watching the performance today was gruelling yet again, the players were lost and found it difficult doing the basics things. I see no real improvement ahead but will continue supporting the team to the bitter end. (@peterjo91525330)
Embarrassing, worst performance this season. Things are getting worse not better. I fear for the rest of the season. If we play that bad again next week we'll get absolutely hammered... (@PaulLighty24910)
Out fought, outplayed and outclassed. Fed up with hearing we are not good enough, who recruited these players? I have supported Carlisle for 50 years and this is one of the worst teams I have seen. Hope they can turn it around but all the other teams must relish playing us. (@timgv123)
Today was the day we passed the point of no return! Relegation is now a certainty. Still... Next week I'll be up from London for the game, and to cheer the boys on. (@cufcfanvote)
We were awful. Things are getting worse. Armstrong hasn't had a decent ball up to him. He must wonder what he signed up for. There is absolutely no confidence in the squad. I would look at changing Skelton for a new fresh coach to bring some life into the club, and to help Simmo. (@BruceVander)
Simmo needs to be honest with players and fans that relegation is now inevitable, and tell us his plans for the remaining 16 games. If I was the owner, I would set his target as four more wins, to avoid this being our worst ever season. Any less and it is thank you and goodbye. (@MikeEwins)
Looking at who is contracted for next season there are 17 (I think) players contracted and an offer for Gabe Breeze. If the season continues as it is and we go down playing the way we have the rest of the season I worry how they will start next season. (@andrewhoddie)
Simmo doesn’t know how to fix this. Can’t keep saying worst performance of the season after the previous week's worst performance of the season. L1 is dusted. Need to take some kind of form into L2 or risk turning into next season's Forest Green. (@johny_wood)
First the quality of the players is poor, the new signings have been uninspiring lack of skills & quality. Its been chaotic & at times shambolic. There appears to be a lack of coaching techniques, the sides performance has deteriorated & now seems disheartened. (@Dougmcd9826)
"We need wins..." says Simmo. How on earth was that team formation going to do that? Just look at the stats! Regardless of Simmo's hero status a lot of those players are not doing it for him & that usually prompts change from one side or the other How hard is it to shoot or cross (@Andythehood)
8 wins in 12 months… (@James220203)
Extremely poor (@_adamwilson)
Awful. Can't say any more (@MartinCrellin1)
Questionable January, can’t believe we didn’t go out and try get a centre back (@cufcaidan)
Unacceptable! (@RannonWalker)
I'm afraid Simmo has lost his way, things are quickly getting worse. Defence poor, Mellish clueless in midfield, long aimless balls. (@bragg_jb)
