Two teenagers from Whitehaven ended up sharing the podium at a county swimming event, breaking a 17-year-old club record in the process.
Both Adam Kelly (15) and Finley Quayle (19), of Copeland ASC club, would register personal bests at the county open age 50m breaststroke earlier this week.
However, they remarkably finished with the same time of 31:02 in the final - something which Adam's mum suggested has never happened before - meaning the two teammates were able to share the podium.
Adam's mum Emma said: "It was a gripping final, which was so close, but they were both able to share the podium. They both beat Copeland's club record, which had stood since 2007.
"Adam joined Copeland when he was about nine and he's been swimming with them ever since. He loves it.
"He gets up at five in the morning just to go, so he's incredibly dedicated. He's got a schedule which he sticks to really well. He's chuffed to bits."
Adam said: "I was delighted to win the County Open Age 50m breaststroke title with my teammate Finley Quayle. I think we were both surprised when we realised it was a dead heat and even more so when we realised that we both swam PBs, bettering a Copeland ASC club record that had stood since 2007.
"Well done to all my Copeland teammates who swam equally as well over the two weekends."
