Carlisle United fans gave us their views on social media platform X after the 4-0 home defeat to Cambridge United. Here is a selection of their comments.
Disappointing, frustrating, depressing! Any hope I had of avoiding relegation has finally gone. Major turnover of players needed in the summer but I have faith in Simmo to oversee a revival in the next couple of years (@tim_martland)
Sounded awful. Managerial change at this point will change nothing in reality and may lead to more change and dysfunction in the summer. Cool heads are required. Simmo to become Director of Football, and he, with the owners, should appoint a Head Coach by the summer. (@BruceVander)
We’re gone. And, more worryingly, it looks like the fight has too. (@HYFPRW)
The printable version… A meek surrender. No fight. No commitment, and quite frankly it is embarrassing and humiliating at the moment. (@dnm_thegoose)
I don't know what to say, that's as bad as I've felt walking away from Brunton Park since that infamous Swindon game. We are not a good team, and this season was always going to be a struggle, but the players just aren't playing for him, and it is such a tough watch. (@phleaslittle)
Defence a shambles, including goalkeeper. Armstrong getting zero service. Players lack confidence and are demoralised as soon as they inevitably go behind. Cambridge are a bang average team but they made us look like a pub side. We would be struggling in League 2 with these performances (@Wisey6575)
Reality is we’re down. Lads have to prove they want to be part of us in League 2. If not, move on. Armstrong crying out for support & signing crocks ain’t helped. Good times will be back, but unless you’re Man City, there’ll always be lows in footy. We’re just in our next one (@AdWhitfield94)
Wouldn’t compete top table in League Two with the tactics & squad. Fact of the matter is we have wasted money in January. And need someone better than GA going forward. Losing faith in Simmo which I hate but we have zero identity and doing the same old stuff every week. (@CameronEllis_)
Another bad day but I don't think Simmo should take the blame for everything happening on the pitch, his record at CUFC is exemplary, various reasons have caused this disaster of a season that are out of his control. Players brought in are injured and some are under performing. (@peterjo91525330)
Shambolic yet again, poor defending, with the exception of Neal players were again poor on the ball, static & no confidence. Another poor performance (@Dougmacd9826)
Simmo is a legend but has to go. The Piataks have to sack him tonight otherwise they’ll look stupid. There’s other CUFC legends available or create a new one! (@Mullen103)
What a sad season this has been and continues to be. (@krisfoster)
Turgid. Depressing. Can we just forfeit the last 14 games (@dougrmurphy)
Simmo is a good man, but we all know what it feels like to have a bad few days at work. I expect he’ll resign, as the owners will not sack him. I can’t say I’d blame him, he’s incredible, but he’s lost the dressing room. Players can do that to a manager. (@AyeCumbrian)
Up until recently I’ve felt that Simmo should be given the chance to continue into next season. However, that will mean he gets to spend the budget in the transfer window - the quality of signings so far have been very poor - it’s too big a risk. Sadly, time to go. (@stewelsh)
Had some truly bad days at BP over last 60 years but that’s right up there with the very worst. We are a worse team now than Dec - no doubt. And the pre Xmas team was worse than the one which ended last season! Nothing changes & next season could be as bad. That’s the trajectory. (@Blencath007)
I've given up. (@carlisl9125)
Only so many ways to assess these performances week after week. Again, like last week, they started well and looked useful, till a failure on the right left their player free as a bird to send in a rocket, straight through everybody then a mental "here we go again" sets in. (@LindaNi121202)
I have no words! (@navy484)
We've now got a 14 game L2 pre-season. Don't think the owners will sack Simmo now, but he has to somehow get us out of this rut, or a change must come in the summer. Just like Carlisle to combine great things off the pitch with probably our worst ever season for results on it. (@MikeEwins)
Nothing printable (@parkinsonross)
