Cleator Moor Celtic were probably denied a record-breaking win in the West Lancashire League.
They led struggling Slyne with Hest 8-0 at half-time when the referee called a halt – and the fixture will have to be replayed.
It was abandoned in the interests of players safety because of the pitch conditions. Torrential rain throughout the first half had made it dangerous.
Photographer Elwyn Evans, who covered the game reported: “The pitch was churned up and filling with water, so players were struggling to keep their feet, particularly in tackles.”

Celtic had been on a losing run but were running away with the game against a side, next to bottom of the League, who had lost every away fixture.
First half goals from Taylor Hambling (3), Rhys Little (2), Adam Smith, Luke Close and Owen Charlton had pushed Celtic well clear.
Both sides now await a new date for the re-arranged game.
