AN ITVX documentary is set to explore a Cumbrian Women's Six Nation star's return to rugby.
England lock Abbie Ward, who was born in Dumfries but raised in Keswick, made her return to international rugby in the Red Roses' Six Nations opener against Italy on Sunday, March 24, eight months after giving birth in July.
Ward scored in England's 0-48 rout of the Italians and is now set to be the subject of the documentary, named 'Abbie Ward: A Bump in the Road', which will explore the Cumbrian star's battle to secure a place in the England Women's Six Nations 2024 squad and her return to rugby union just 17 weeks after giving birth.
"I always thought it was important to vocalise the journey," Ward said about creating and starring in the documentary.
"I don’t think there has been that awareness from certain sports or definitely [not] the men’s sports that this was a thing that was happening, that players weren’t able to have a family and play professional sport at the same time.
"A lot were retiring."
Ward also looks set to feature in the Red Roses' next Women's Six Nations clash with Wales on Saturday, March 30.
