Former Carlisle United loanee Jack Diamond has been released by Sunderland.
The winger, who spent the second half of last season on loan with the Blues, is now looking for a new club.
United will now weigh up whether to make a fresh move for Diamond as they rebuild their squad for League Two.
Blues boss Paul Simpson did not rule out such a move when speaking about Diamond in April.
He said: "He’s found it difficult at times, but there’s a footballer there, a really talented one.
“He’s under contract at Sunderland, they have an option with him, so we’ll wait and see what happens with that come the end of the season, and it may be part of the whole recruitment job – which I can assure everybody will be a big recruitment job in the summer.”
Sunderland have let the 24-year-old go after deciding not to trigger a further year in his contract.
Diamond returned to first-team football with United in 2023/24 having missed months of action as he successfully fought a rape charge.
The former Harrogate Town and Lincoln City loanee made 16 appearances for the Blues.
Ex-United loaner Corry Evans is among the other players released by Sunderland.
