Jarrad Branthwaite admits it would be a "dream" to go to the Euros with England.

The Cumbrian defender has the chance to be involved in Euro 2024 after being named in the Three Lions' provisional squad.

Former Carlisle United star Branthwaite, 21, is one of three Cumbrians in Gareth Southgate's 33-man training party along with Dean Henderson and James Trafford.

The trio will now hope to make the final cut when Southgate reduces his squad to 26 for the tournament in Germany.

For Branthwaite it is a second senior call-up after he was involved in the squad for March's friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

He is awaiting his first senior cap.

Speaking to Everton's website about the prospect of a Euro call-up, the Wigton star said: “It would be massive.

"I think for every young kid, going to play at a major tournament would be a dream.

“All I could do across the season was – in every game – give the best possible account of myself."

The defender's impressive campaign has seen him voted players' player of the season by his team-mates at Everton.

Whitehaven-born goalkeeper Henderson, meanwhile, has spoken of his delight at being back in the England set-up.

The Crystal Palace No1, who started at Carlisle's academy, is back in contention after returning to fitness and form in the Premier League.

"It’s always an honour to receive the call up. I’ve missed this feeling and being with the squad!" said Henderson.

The inclusion of Burnley keeper Trafford, from Greysouthen, increases the Cumbrian involvement in Southgate's training group.

It means that nine per cent of the entire squad are from this county - and Carlisle United academy products.

And three quarters of the goalkeeping contingent have United connections, with No1 Jordan Pickford having been a Blues loanee.

England are due to take on Bosnia & Herzegovina in a friendly on June 3, and then face Iceland four days later, with the final squad for the Euros set to be confirmed on June 8.
